Insider Talk is a weekly feature on 3DownNation that features anonymous quotes from people around the CFL — players, coaches, personnel people, executives, agents, etc. — regarding the latest news around the league. It’s a combination of insight, analysis, rumours, and friendly gossip.

This week’s Insider Talk is full of discussion regarding Edmonton signing veteran free agent offensive lineman David Foucault, Cody Fajardo struggling to see the field in Saskatchewan, changes to Ottawa’s front office staff, how long Chris Jones will stay with the Elks, and the best receiver in the CFL.

Enjoy this week’s quotes and come back next Wednesday for another edition of Insider Talk.

The Elks paid (Canadian offensive lineman David) Foucault like a starter. That tells me they’ll be moving on from at least one of their veterans, especially if they sign (local product and pending free agent Mark) Korte as well.

(Former Ottawa Redblacks’ coordinator of player personnel) Pier-Yves Lavergne is a great young scout. He shouldn’t be out of work for long.

The 2022 CFL Draft is not deep at all. Those top ten to twelve picks are going to be highly coveted because after that the talent level drops off in a hurry.

Paul LaPolice is a good head coach. He’s well-organized and he schemes really well. Does he have an ego? Sure, but this is pro football. We all have egos.

I think the problem with Saskatchewan’s passing game is (quarterback Cody) Fajardo’s just not seeing the field very well. The receivers are good enough if you ask me.

***

If I were a bookie, I’d set the over/under for Chris Jones staying in Edmonton at 2.5 years.

***

The ratio drives me crazy sometimes. We’re paying way too much money to Canadian receivers who have never had more than 750 yards and Canadian offensive linemen who rarely play.

Reggie Begelton is the best receiver in the CFL if you ask me. He stretches the field well and he’s just so versatile. He competes on each route and he’s got elite ball skills.
