One of the top Canadian players in college football has received an invitation to the 2022 NFL Combine, he announced on Twitter.
Jesse Luketa will be heading to Indianapolis, Ind. at the start of March to perform in front of NFL coaches and personnel experts from across the league. The 2022 NFL Draft is scheduled for the end of April, which is when Luketa will be hoping to hear his name called by a team south of the border.
The six-foot-three, 251-pound defender declared for the 2022 NFL Draft last week after completing his senior season at Penn State. He would have been eligible to return to school next year as a fifth-year senior due to the NCAA’s decision to grant players an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He garnered a Senior Bowl invitation in November, which shows that he has a serious chance of getting drafted. 106 players who participated in the 2021 Senior Bowl were selected by NFL teams, representing 41 percent of the overall draft pool.
Luketa dressed for eleven regular season games as a senior in 2021, recording 52 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, one interceptions, and 0.5 sacks. He has finished his four-year NCAA career with 142 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and 0.5 sacks playing both defensive end and linebacker.
The native of Ottawa, Ont. was the No. 4-ranked prospect in the fall scouting bureau rankings for the 2022 CFL Draft. He should be one of the top selections in the 2022 CFL Draft unless he is selected by an NFL team, in which case his stock north of the border will drop.
Luketa is close friends with former college teammate Micah Parsons, who was a first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has had a great rookie season, recording 79 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three knockdowns, and three forced fumbles.
