The Chris Jones era in Edmonton has officially begun, as the new Elks head coach and general manager brought down the axe releasing 11 players.

10 of the 11 athletes suited up for the Elks in 2021, including eight Americans and two nationals. Among the list were a number of marquee names including a pair of former Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award winners.

3DownNation previously reported the release of offensive tackle Derek Dennis, but also gone is 2015 MOOL winner SirVincent Rogers. The 35-year old left tackle was held to just three games in 2021 due to injury.

Other big name releases include defensive back Jonathan Rose and receiver Armanti Edwards, both impactful CFL veterans. Defensive end Chris Casher and kick returner Terry Williams, both prized free agent signings by former GM Brock Sunderland, were also given walking papers. Fullback James Tuck and long snapper Martin Bedard were the two Canadians released.

Promising rookie receiver Earnest Edwards and defensive backs Afolabi Laguda and Herb Waters rounded out the list of names cut to begin the team’s rebuild.

CFL free agency officially opens February 8.
