‘You gotta do what’s got you here’: Ticats’ Orlondo Steinauer shares philosophy on sex before 108th Grey Cup

Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach Orlondo Steinauer doesn’t want his players to change their approach leading into the 108th Grey Cup, including sex.

Legendary reporter Jim ‘Shaky’ Hunt interrupted boring parts of the annual head coaches press conference in the past to ask the famous sex question. Steinauer answered first at the Hamilton Convention Centre on Wednesday morning.

“Thank you, because I got hammered last time. I’m sorry I don’t have anything creative but I’ve always just said: you gotta do what’s got you here. With that I’ll turn it over to Osh,” Steinauer said using the nickname for Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea.

“I went through and tried to come up with something, but the interesting point is this year is really different. The way the protocols worked and the respect that a teammate has to have for his other teammates in order to make sure that their health and welfare is looked after, it’s paramount,” O’Shea said.

“The COVID protocols have taken care of any answer that you can conjure up for this question this year.”

Winnipeg’s bench boss provided a much more colourful answer prior to the 107th Grey Cup in Calgary and the Blue Bombers went on to hoist the trophy with a convincing 33-12 win.

“There’s going to be some nerves, the expectations are very high, and the anticipation can sometimes ruin the event,” O’Shea said in November 2019. “I guess my guidance to the players would be don’t exhaust yourself in the warmup.”
