The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made a switch at quarterback early in the East Final, pulling starter Jeremiah Masoli in favour of backup Dane Evans early in the second quarter.

Masoli was 4-of-6 for just 22 yards during the first quarter, but hung on to the ball far too long on his final play and was stripped by Cordarro Law.

The two quarterbacks were in a training camp battle for the starting job which Masoli initially won, before Evans took over in Week 4 after he suffered a rib injury. Masoli returned to the lineup in Week 9 and went on a tear to end the season, but struggled in a few meaningless late season games.

Masoli finished the year 188-of-271 for 2,445 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in nine games at the helm in 2021. Evans saw significant action in four, going 69-of-107 for 787 yards, six touchdowns and three picks.

Back in 2019, Masoli led the Ticats to a 5-1 record before suffering a torn ACL against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in August. He completed 125-of-175 pass attempts for 1,576 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions in those games while rushing for 79 yards and four scores.

Evans took over as the starter the next eleven games, posting a 9-2 record as Hamilton lock-up the No. 1 spot in the East Division. He completed 298-of-413 pass attempts for 3,754 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. The 27-year-old helped the Ticats make it to the Grey Cup and will now attempt to do so again.
