The Canadian Football League has fined two players following Week 16 action.
Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive lineman Garrett Marino was fined for unnecessary roughness on Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.
Marino was penalized twice in Saskatchewan’s 24-3 loss to Hamilton — once for roughing the passer late in the second quarter and once for unnecessary roughness early in the third quarter. The 27-year-old was highly impactful during his rookie CFL season, recording 13 tackles and four sacks in just seven games.
Edmonton Elks’ strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief was also fined for a high hit on Toronto Argonauts’ quarterback Antonio Pipkin.
Moncrief was penalized for roughing the passer midway through the first quarter in Edmonton’s 13-7 victory over Toronto. The former CFL all-star made 23 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and four sacks in nine games in his first season in Edmonton.
As per league policy, the amounts of the fines were not disclosed.
The Riders return to the field on Sunday for the West Semi-Final against the Calgary Stampeders, while the Elks were eliminated from playoff contention after finishing the season with a 3-11 record.
