Former Calgary Stampeders’ linebacker Wynton McManis has signed with the Miami Dolphins, according to his Instagram page.
McManis had a breakout campaign in 2019 with the Calgary Stampeders, starting 15 games, recording 86 defensive tackles, nine special teams’ tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. In his two previous seasons, McManis was a core special teamer and led the league with 25 special teams’ tackles in 2018.
McManis decided to opt out of his CFL contract in August 2020. He worked out for the New Orleans Saints and signed with the team at the end of training camp. He was waived in September but signed back with the team on a futures contract.
He spent most of the 2021 season on New Orleans’ practice roster and dressed for one game in Week 2, taking eight snaps on special teams. He was released outright in mid-October.
The graduate of the University of Memphis went unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft before signing with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. He earned a spot on the team’s practice roster before being elevated to the active roster in late December. McManis was waived by the 49ers before the 2017 season and made his way to Calgary.
