The Ottawa Redblacks have made another change at quarterback heading into their final regular season game of the 2021 CFL season.

Caleb Evans is listed as the starting quarterback on the team’s depth chart, marking his seventh start of the season. He will replace Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges who started Ottawa’s most recent game, a 23-20 loss to the Toronto Argonauts in Week 14.

Evans is 1-5 as a starter and has been unable to produce consistently through the air since his three-touchdown debut against the Edmonton Elks. He has now completed 90-of-153 pass attempts (58.8 percent) for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and nine interceptions as a CFL rookie, though he has the second-best quarterback rating of the club’s five passers.

The Louisiana-Monroe product has shone in the run game, recording 32 carries for 289 yards and one touchdown. He is the league’s third-ranked rusher among quarterbacks and Ottawa second-ranked rusher behind running back Timothy Flanders.

Hodges struggled in his first career CFL start, completing 8-of-22 pass attempts for 90 yards. He previously saw action in the club’s Week 12 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, recording 49 passing yards and one interception.

The Redblacks (2-11) have nothing to play for on Friday night when they visit the Montreal Alouettes (7-6), though the same can’t be said for the home side. The Als still have a shot to host the East Semi-Final on Sunday, Nov. 28 provided they beat Ottawa, which means the Redblacks will have their hands full with a full complement of Montreal starters.
