Ottawa native Jesse Luketa receives invitation to Senior Bowl

Penn State’s Jesse Luketa has received an invitation to the 2022 Senior Bowl.

The six-foot-three, 251-pound defender is one of the top Canadians in the NCAA, recording 137 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, six knockdowns, one interception, one fumble recovery, and 0.5 sacks over 35 career games with the Nittany Lions. He has played primarily defensive end this year, though he mostly played linebacker in past seasons.

106 players who participated in the 2021 Senior Bowl were drafted by NFL teams, representing 41 percent of the overall draft pool. Only college seniors and fourth-year graduating juniors are eligible to participate in the game.

Three Canadians participated in the 2021 Senior Bowl, all three of whom found homes in the NFL.

Defensive back Benjamin St-Juste was a third-round pick of the Washington Football Team, receiver Josh Palmer was a third-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, and offensive tackle Alaric Jackson was signed by the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent.

Luketa was the No. 4-ranked prospect in the fall scouting bureau rankings for the 2022 CFL Draft. He should be one of the top selections in the CFL draft unless he is drafted by an NFL team, in which case his stock north of the border will drop.

Luketa is close friends with former college teammate Micah Parsons, who was a first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has had a great rookie season, recording 58 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, two knockdowns, and one forced fumble.
