Halloween can be especially fun if you have a sense of humour and one Regina journalist drew inspiration from her own experience for a football-themed costume this year, with a helpful assist from a furry friend.

Earlier this month, Daniella Ponticelli found herself on the sidelines for the Regina Rams upset of the Calgary Dinos when backup quarterback Sawyer Buettner scored on a hard-fought QB sneak. When the pair met for a post-touchdown interview, the excited quarterback had no idea his bloodied nose was dripping on to his interviewer.

The resulting exchange, culminating in the infamous line “I’m from Moose Jaw. We’re a gritty group,” went viral and was picked up by Barstool Sports’ podcast Pardon My Take, reaching their audience of more than 643.3 thousand fans. Buettner went on to win their popular “Football Guy of the Week” contest and Ponticelli has further embraced her role in the internet sensation with a hilarious Halloween costume.

It appears that Ponticelli will be enjoying the festivities this year dressed as the cheerfully bloodied Buettner, but the piece de resistance is the inclusion of her canine friend in the bit. Decked out in the same clothes Buettner once dripped on, “Dogniella Pawticielli” looks like a reporter who will dig for a story.

The hilarious costume is receiving plenty of love online, with Buettner’s stamp of approval, and the success of the original clip was in no small part due to Ponticelli’s earnest and good-natured response to the moment. She’s continuing to lean into it with a smile and passing that enjoyment on to the rest of us.
