One of the top defenders in U Sports football is going to get a chance to shine in front of scouts from both sides of the border.
Anthony Federico of the Queen’s Golden Gaels has accepted an invitation to the College Gridiron Showcase, per source. The event is held annually in Forth Worth, Texas and serves to provide players — many of whom come from small and medium-sized postsecondary programs — to perform in front of scouts.
Some notable players who have attended the event in the past include Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ quarterback Dane Evans, Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ running back Brady Oliveira, and Toronto Argonauts’ receiver Ricky Collins Jr.
A number of former first-round CFL draft picks have also attended the event, including Toronto Argonauts’ offensive lineman Peter Nicastro, Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive back Adam Auclair, Calgary Stampeders’ defensive end Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund, and retired Ottawa Redblacks’ offensive lineman Alex Mateas.
Federico has posted some jaw-dropping numbers this season, recording 25 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. The Golden Gaels have been dominant on the defensive side of the football, amassing a perfect 6-0 record while allowing an average of just 7.3 points per game.
The six-foot-four, 240-pound pass-rusher was not included in the first edition of the CFL scouting bureau’s 2022 draft rankings but his outstanding season has drawn attention from scouts south of the border.
The 2022 College Gridiron Showcase is scheduled for January 8-12.
