The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian running back Jamel Lyles after releasing him in August.
Lyles was originally selected in the eighth round of the 2019 CFL Draft. The Surrey native saw his hard work and determination pay off when he was promoted to the active roster for seven regular season games in his rookie season.
He recorded eleven carries for 86 yards, three receptions for ten yards, and six kickoff returns for 114 yards in 2019. He dressed for two games in 2021 but did not register a statistic prior to his release.
The six-foot, 210-pound back’s U Sports career at the University of Manitoba included Canada West Rookie of the Year honours in 2015.
Lyles tweeted on Oct. 4 that he had received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in “hopes to return to the game.” He has since received his second dose, which may have played a role in the team’s willingness to bring him back.
