The Ottawa Redblacks have signed their first round pick from the 2021 Global Draft, former NFL receiver Anthony Mahoungou.

The Paris, France native was selected ninth overall by general manager Marcel Desjardins in April.

During three seasons and 36 games played with Purdue University, Mahoungou recorded 61 receptions for 880 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 14.4 yards per catch. His senior year stood out with the Boilermakers, 40 catches for 688 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games. After his NCAA career, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent.

In 2019, Mahoungou joined one of the top teams in the German Football League, the Frankfurt Universe. Through nine games he recorded 42 receptions for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The six-foot-three, 210-pound pass catcher played with the Frankfurt Galaxy during the 2021 GFL season.

The 27-year-old Mahoungou has been placed on the Redblacks suspended list while he completes his quarantine.
