Caleb Evans is taking first-team reps with the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday, according to play-by-play radio man AJ Jakubec.
Caleb Evans, Taryn Christion and Duck Hodges are the three Redblacks QBs available at practice. No Matt Nichols or Dominique Davis. Hodges is wearing #7.
The Redblacks had another abysmal offensive performance in a 24-7 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Wednesday.
Dominique Davis started the contest and threw for 68 yards and an interceptions before leaving the game with what appeared to be a leg injury. Matt Nichols came on in relief but left the game as well after taking a big hit on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Canadian receiver Nate Behar was forced into action as the emergency quarterback and completed one pass for three yards.
Evans signed with the Redblacks in December 2020 and has been with the club all season. He threw for 9,520 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions in 42 games at University of Louisiana Monroe. He also ran for 2,162 yards and 36 scores, proving he is a dual-threat pivot.
The six-foot-two, 210-pound passer was named All-Sun Belt Third Team as a junior in 2018 and was one of three FBS quarterbacks to record multiple games with at least 290 passing yards and 100 rushing yards, alongside Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Houston’s D’Eriq King.
The Redblacks are slated to host the Edmonton Elks on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. ET. Rookie quarterback Taylor Cornelius will be under centre for the Elks while Trevor Harris remains on the six-game injured list due to a neck injury.
