Veteran Canadian defensive back Mike Edem has been placed on the six game injured list by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
“Edem has a dislocated wrist. He’ll have to have surgery so that’s six minimum,” Riders’ head coach Craig Dickenson said.
Edem is currently sporting a cast after suffering the setback while attempting to make a diving interception at IG Field in the Banjo Bowl. He’s played in five games for the green and white this season making 11 tackles and forcing one fumble.
The 32-year-old is in his fourth year with the Riders after a 2019 season that saw him named a West Division all-star. The six-foot-one, 210-pound defender played in all 18 regular season games, plus the West Final, collecting 69 tackles, seven special teams tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble, which resulted in the best season of his CFL career.
Edem was selected by the Montreal Alouettes in the first round, third overall during the 2013 CFL Draft. After three seasons with the Als, Edem was acquired by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in October of 2015. He went on to spend 2016 with the B.C. Lions before joining the Riders via trade in the spring of 2017.
Through eight CFL seasons and 116 games, Edem has collected 250 defensive tackles, 57 special teams tackles, eight interceptions, eight quarterback sacks and forced six fumbles. He was also named an East Division All-Star in 2013.
