Mississauga, Ont. native Dejon Brissett is set to make his first career start on Friday when the Toronto Argonauts host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the second half of their Labour Day home-and-home series.

Brissett has dressed for all four games with the Argos this season as a rotational player but has yet to start a game. He has made three receptions on four targets for 63 yards, including a 31-yard grab in Week 3 in a victory over Winnipeg.

The six-foot-one, 195-pound receiver was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2020 CFL Draft out of Virginia where he transferred following a four-year stint at Richmond. His best season with the Spiders came in 2018 when he made 63 receptions for 896 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games.

He will start slotback in place of American rookie Damion Jeanpiere who disappointed in his CFL debut in the Labour Day Classic, making just one reception for eight yards.

Brissett’s younger brother, Oshae, is a small forward for the Indiana Pacers who averaged 10.9 points per game during the 2020-21 regular season.
