The Edmonton Elks have ruled out ratio-breaking defensive end Kwaku Boateng for Thursday’s game against the B.C. Lions.

The veteran pass-rusher was added to COVID protocols on Thursday and has been ruled out for this week’s contest.

Boateng has recorded five tackles and two sacks through two games this season in losses to the Ottawa Redblacks and Montreal Alouettes.

Edmonton is planning to dress two backup American defensive ends in Thomas Costigan and Christian Rector, one of whom will likely start in Boateng’s absence.

The Elks had a COVID-19 scare two weeks ago when they cancelled their Week 1 walkthrough and media availability due to protocols. Brian Walker and SirVincent Rogers were held out of the lineup, the latter of whom revealed that he’d test positive and urged people to get vaccinated.
