Professional athletes are often celebrated for showing up early to practice and staying late, but Brandon Banks went another step further on Monday.

The CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Player arrived for practice early in the morning only to learn that his team was given the day off.

Banks tweeted the following at 8:08 a.m. ET on Monday:

So i went to work today not knowing we had the day off !!! just kno im ready to get my azz back to work and get better !!!!

Banks had a strong performance in the 2021 CFL season-opener, making eight receptions for 77 yards against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His team got out to an early 6-0 lead but failed to score another point as the home side claimed a 19-6 victory.

The Ticats aren’t slated to return to practice until Tuesday when they will begin preparations for their Week 2 contest against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Riders got out to a 31-0 lead against the B.C. Lions in Week 1 and barely held on for a 33-29 win.

Saturday’s game between Hamilton and Saskatchewan is slated for 10:00 p.m. ET at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, though Rider Nation probably wouldn’t mind if Banks got the date wrong for the game, too.
