The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without two stars on offence when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit on Thursday to kick-off the 2021 CFL season.

Running back Andrew Harris (calf) and receiver Darvin Adams (shoulder) will be absent from the lineup due to lingering injuries suffered in training camp. Neither player participated in practices this past week. This will be the first game that Harris misses due to injury since signing with the Blue Bombers as a free agent in February 2016.

Harris will be replaced by Winnipeg native Brady Oliveira, who was a second-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft. Johnny Augustine should also get some reps and has proven he can be effective in Winnipeg’s attack, recording 253 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in two starts in 2019.

Adams will be replaced at boundary wide receiver by Kenny Lawler, who quietly led the Blue Bombers in receiving yardage in 2019. Lawler’s spot at slotback has been given to speedy Oregon product Charles Nelson.

Weak-side linebacker Kyrie Wilson (thigh) will also miss Thursday’s game, leaving an opening for rookie Jontrell Rocquemore. The team will also start two rookies in the secondary in Deatrick Nichols and DeAundre Alford.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers kick-off the 2021 CFL season on Thursday at IG Field at 8:30 p.m. ET.
