Tiger-Cats’ receiver DeVier Posey ruled out for Week 1 against Bombers

Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach Orlondo Steinauer has ruled receiver DeVier Posey out for Week 1 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Posey suffered a calf injury during training camp, according to the Ticats injury report.

“Posey’s on the one-game and I said earlier on that he’d be a longshot,” Steinauer said on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Posey signed a one-year deal with the Tabbies on February 12, 2020 after starting 12 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2019, registering 50 receptions for 780 yards and three touchdowns. He inked a fresh one-year pact this past February with Hamilton.

The six-foot-two, 210-pound native of Redwood City, California has appeared in 36 career CFL games over four seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (2016-2017), B.C. Lions (2018) and Als (2019), posting 144 receptions for 2,080 yards and 13 touchdowns — 14.4 yards per catch.

Posey won the 105th Grey Cup with the Argos and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after hauling in seven receptions for 175 yards, including a CFL title game record 100-yard touchdown reception.

Prior to his CFL tenure, Posey played 26 games in the NFL with the Houston Texans over three seasons (2012-2014), accumulating 22 receptions for 272 yards — 12.4 yards per catch.

Posey also spent time with the New York Jets (2015), Denver Broncos (2016) and Baltimore Ravens (2018). The Ohio State University product was originally selected by Houston in the third round, 68th overall during the 2012 NFL Draft.

The man with 4.39 speed in the 40-yard dash has been seen at Ticats practices early in camp with an air cast on the bottom of his left leg.
