The Calgary Stampeders are locking in their 2021 roster ahead of the CFL’s cutdown deadline on Friday, releasing 16 players.

Among the biggest names released was quarterback Dakota Prukop, a leading candidate to backup Bo Levi Mitchell. That paves the way for Canadian Michael O’Connor to claim the job.

Prukop originally joined the Stamps as a free agent in February 2020 after dressing 41 games over three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts.

The six-foot-two, 200-pound Prukop joined the Argos in 2017 and recorded his first passing stats in 2019, completing 18-of-30 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns against two interceptions. He also carried the ball 11 times for 39 yards. Prukop saw action on special teams in Toronto and recorded nine tackles over three seasons.
