Tom Brady may be the GOAT, but he’s happy to admit he has company in the conversation of the greatest football players in history.

The 21-year NFL veteran was celebrating receiving his seventh Super Bowl ring Friday, but took some time to give love to a CFL legend on Instagram. After Doug Flutie shared an old picture of the two from back in the day, Brady shared just what he thought of the former Heisman Trophy winner to his 9.8 million followers.

“Doug Flutie, one of the greatest football players EVER!!!!!!” Brady wrote.

Flutie played eight seasons in the CFL and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Player a record six times. The three-time Grey Cup MVP threw for 41,355 yards, 270 touchdowns, and 155 interceptions before returning to the NFL where he started 52 games over the following eight years.

In 2005, Flutie served as Brady’s backup with the New England Patriots during his final season before retiring and the two have remained close ever since. During the season, the pair reportedly text once a week.

Getting a shout out from the GOAT proves what CFL fans already know from his stints with the Toronto Argonauts, Calgary Stampeders and B.C. Lions, Flutie is among the greatest athletes to ever play the game on either side of the border.
