The Edmonton Elks have placed University of Saskatchewan defensive lineman Evan Machibroda on the retired list.
Machibroda was an interior force for the Huskies. Coaches around the Canada West conference and USports unanimously felt Machibroda was the best defensive tackle in the country during his time in Saskatoon.
Edmonton selected Machibroda in the fifth round, 41st overall during the 2019 CFL draft. He attended the CFL combine for team interviews only and informed teams of his intention to return to school in 2019 to finish his engineering degree, which was the only reason Machibroda wasn’t the first defensive lineman taken in the draft.
The Saskatoon native capped off a great USask career by being named a first team all-Canadian for the second year in a row. Machibroda finished his final season with 22 tackles, 11 quarterback hurries, seven tackles for loss and five sacks. He attended training camp with the Elks in 2019.
