The Toronto Argonauts are adding to an already talented receiving corps with a recognizable name for college football fans.
The team has signed former Louisville wide receiver Jaylen Smith ahead of the 2021 season, best remembered as the favourite target of future NFL MVP Lamar Jackson during his time with the Cardinals.
The six-foot-two, 220-pound Smith was First-Team All ACC in 2017 after catching 60 passes, 980 yards & 7 touchdowns from the Heisman trophy winner. The receiver finished his 48 game collegiate career with 152 reception for 2,505 yards and 15 touchdown, sitting sixth on Louisville’s all-time yardage list.
Despite an invite to the prestigious Senior Bowl, Smith went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens but was released as part of final roster cuts. Smith landed on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks until his contract expired in January of 2020.
The Argos also announce today the release of the American WR Jawill Davis, American QB Kelly Bryant and American DB Ermon Lane.
