The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected tight end Jake Burt with the first overall pick in the 2021 Canadian Football League Draft on Tuesday night and signed him to a three-year contract.

The 24-year-old Burt signed as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots on April 26, 2020. He attended training camp with the Patriots before spending the season on their practice roster.

The six-foot-four, 245-pound tight end played 36 games at Boston College over parts of five seasons (2015-2019). He registered 23 receptions for 307 yards and two touchdowns and redshirted in 2016 due to an ACL knee injury. Burt was also named to the 2019 John Mackey Award Watch List prior to his senior year with the Eagles and went on to post career highs in receptions (15) and receiving yards (212) that season.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Burt, and his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts when he was four years old.
