Canadian tight end Antony Auclair is heading to the Super Bowl.
The native of Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Que. was part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that defeated the Green Bay Packers by a score of 31-26 on Sunday to win the NFC Championship Game.
Tampa Bay will now play at home in Super Bowl LV as the club looks to win its first championship since 2002.
The 27-year-old is in his fourth season with the Buccaneers and has appeared in 40 games with 20 starts at tight end. Though not often involved in the passing game — he has ten career receptions for 84 yards — Auclair is a well-regarded blocker.
The Laval product was a star at Laval University and drew scouts from 17 NFL teams to his pro day in 2017. He made 17 catches for 229 yards and two touchdowns in eight regular season games for the Rouge et Or in his final year with the team.
Auclair is the third Canadian to reach the Super Bowl over the last two seasons with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Ryan Hunter appearing in it last year with the Kansas City Chiefs. The pair were the first Canadians to play in a Super Bowl since Jon Ryan and Luke Willson did so with the Seattle Seahawks in February 2015.
