The Montreal Alouettes have signed American receiver Jake Wieneke to a one-year contract for the 2021 season.
The six-foot-four, 215-pound Weineke was the Most Outstanding Rookie in the East Division last season.
He was a reliable target for quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., especially in the red zone, where the physical pass catcher registered a team-high eight touchdown receptions, which ranked fifth in the CFL.
“His presence on offence gives us stability for the upcoming season, all while allowing us to keep opposing defences on their heals,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement.
The Maple Grove, Minnesota native caught 41 passes for 569 yards in his first season north of the border. The 26-year-old had his best outing on September 21 in the Alouettes comeback against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers when he caught eight passes for 134 yards and one touchdown.
The former South Dakota State University Jackrabbit made two catches for 36 yards in the 2019 Eastern Semi-Final loss to Edmonton.
