Canadian defensive back Patrice Rene has committed to Rutgers University.

Rene played parts of five season at the University of North Carolina. He goes to the Scarlet Knights as a graduate transfer.

The Ottawa native played 44 games for the Tar Heels between 2016 and 2020. He made 103 total tackles, defended 14 passes, recorded four tackles for loss, two interceptions, forced one fumble, and recovered another.

Two games into the 2019 season, Rene tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He missed the rest of that year and received a medical redshirt from the NCAA. The injury happened during the Tar Heels’ 28-25 victory over the University of Miami.

The six-foot-two, 208-pound cover man went to Episcopal High School in Virginia and was a four-star recruit before choosing UNC.

Rene was 3DownNation’s No. 2 rated CFL Draft prospect prior to the last NCAA season.
