Former NFL punter and fun media personality Pat McAfee has a new favourite football player.
Arizona Cardinals’ starter Kyler Murray may not play in the final week of the regular season — with a playoff spot on the line — due to a lower leg injury. That would mean a promotion for Chris Streveler, the Birds’ backup through the first 16 weeks of the season. McAfee did research on Streveler and quickly took a liking to the former Winnipeg Blue Bomber.
“You know who’s starting at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals potentially? Chris Strefolski. This guy won the Grey Cup in the CFL, this might be my new favourite football player. This guy played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers,” McAfee said on his self-named show.

Neither do I, but if Kyler Murray can't play I found my new favorite football player #PatMcAfeeShowLIVE pic.twitter.com/GOhQUMakrn

“He was wearing a cowboy hat, fur coat, big chain, big beard — I love that man. I don’t know how he isn’t a starter in the NFL right now. He’s potentially playing for the Arizona Cardinals’ playoff hopes this weekend.”
The University of South Dakota product played two seasons with the Bombers and was especially effective during the team’s Grey Cup run in 2019. He rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown in the West Semi-Final in Calgary and threw a touchdown pass to Andrew Harris in the CFL championship victory.
Streveler has taken two snaps this season, recording one carry for three yards in September. It was the first time a former CFL quarterback had recorded an NFL statistic since 2009. The Cardinals (8-7) are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Rams (9-6) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 3.
“I watched some highlights of him, he’s a player. I don’t know if Sean McVay knows what they got potentially lining up in the desert against them with this guy, I did a lot of internet surfing on old Chris Strefolski,” McAfee said.
“He is a problem. I’m hammering the Cardinals. I understand Aaron Donald is over there, maybe the greatest football player of all-time whenever it’s all said and done by everybody, I am hammering so hard Chris Strefolski.”
