The Saskatchewan Roughriders have locked up a key piece of their national depth, re-signing linebacker Nakas Onyeka to a one-year deal. He was set to become a free agent in February 2021.

The news was first reported by Rod Pedersen.

The five-foot-ten, 213-pounder was selected by the  Toronto Argonauts in the fifth round of the 2017 CFL draft.  He spent three seasons with the team, recording  44 total tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in 36 games.

Onyeka requested his release from the Argos in May and signed with the Riders shortly thereafter. He is the cousin of Ottawa defensive end Kene Onyeka and Edmonton defensive back Godrey Onyeka.

With star linebacker Cam Judge still a pending free agent, keeping Onyeka in the fold is key for the Riders.
