Ciante Evans has quietly become one of the CFL’s best defensive backs.

The native of Fort Worth, Texas got settled at the University of Nebraska as a freshman in 2010 before becoming an impact player over the next three years. He finished his tenure with 143 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, ten knockdowns, five sacks, five interceptions, two touchdowns, and one forced fumble.

Evans participated in mini-camp with the Chicago Bears but did not receive an invitation to training camp. He then made the decision to sign a CFL contract with the Calgary Stampeders, joining the team for the latter half of the season.

The 28-year-old took over as a full-time starter in 2016 and held that role with the Stamps for three years. He made 125 total tackles, nine interception, and three forced fumbles over 45 games and was named a CFL all-star in 2017 and 2018.

Three months removed from a Grey Cup title, Evans signed a free agent contract with the Montreal Alouettes. He recorded 29 tackles and three interceptions in 13 games and was named an East Division all-star as part of a talented young secondary.

The five-foot-eleven, 185-pounder was due to make just over $100,000 in 2020 with the Als. He is slated to become a free agent in February 2021.

Evans remains in his prime and has extensive experience at cornerback and halfback. Regardless of where he ends up this upcoming season, expect great things from the versatile defensive back.
