The EE Football Team would not share the exact amount of votes cast for each option with 3DownNation, but did provide the top 10 list. Edmonton is working on a new name to be unveiled in the early spring of 2021.

“I’m a huge ‘no’ on Elite and Express, and all those conceptual things that aren’t real names. They’re just things, they’re like feelings, they’re not things,” Duthie said on TSN 1260 radio.

“I always want my team to be a thing. I like the idea if you’re going to do Eagles, do something else with it so it’s not just Eagles as in Philadelphia — Golden Eagles.”

The Green and Gold franchise asked for name submissions from fans as the organization works through the process of selecting a new moniker and over 13,000 votes were received.

“Elk is not the most menacing name ever, but that’s a good Alberta thing. You could have a nice logo with some horns. Elk sounds Edmonton to me,” Duthie said.

“I don’t care if they’re passive, I don’t care if they’re vegetarians, I don’t even know if this is true. It’s a good-looking animal and it would look good on the side of a helmet. Count me in the Elk camp.”

Duthie has covered the Canadian Football League in various capacities during his illustrious broadcasting career.
