The EE Football Team isn’t the CFL franchise’s forever name.

The Edmonton Football Team is working on a new name to be unveiled in the early spring of 2021. The team wants fans to take part in the next step in its journey and help usher in the next era in club history. Edmonton wants the community involved and ensure the suggestions are seen and read appropriately.

If you have a name suggestion, enter it at the team website and if you have an explanation, please add it. The team is reading all feedback and are taking all options into consideration.

Submitting your suggestion will not result in any payment, retention of rights to your suggestion or qualify the respondent, their friends, family, pets, relatives from Saskatchewan for royalties or future rights for the submission’s contents, should it be chosen or used in any way. However, you will have the distinct pleasure of being one of the ones who is responsible for suggesting Edmonton’s football team’s name, and that’s a story you will tell for the rest of your life.

The Edmonton Football Team board of directors made the decision to discontinue the use of the word “Eskimo” in the team’s name in July and are in the process of selecting a new moniker. Presson has ruled out perhaps the most popular potential new name “Empire” for the franchise.

Since adopting the name over 100 years ago, the franchise and its predecessor organizations have celebrated the hardiness and spirit of those who live in the north. The team’s values of community, integrity, respect and inclusion will not change with this decision.

The team has undertaken a comprehensive engagement process on a new name. That process will include research and engagement with season seat holders, casual ticket purchasers and partners. In the meantime, the franchise is going by either the EE Football Team and Edmonton Football Team.
