You’d think that someone named ‘Dunk’ would know how to slam things home.
I trailed my colleague Justin Dunk by one game in last week’s picks heading into the doubleheader on Monday Night Football. We picked opposite one another in both contests, which meant he only needed a split to secure the win for the week.
After the Chiefs and Cardinals covered easily on my behalf, I completed the comeback to finish 9-5 against the spread in Week 6. Dunk finished a respectable 8-6, but below me for the second consecutive week. Keep that in mind if you decide to trail any of our Week 7 selections listed below.

Week 7
Thursday Night Football
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Line: Eagles -4.5 (-115)
Total: 43.5 points
Dunk’s pick: GIANTS. Two bad and depleted football teams, take the points.
Hodge’s pick: EAGLES. Philadelphia’s not very good, but it’s time they prove they’re the best team in a bad division.
Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints
Line: Saints -7.5 (-105)
Total: 51 points
Dunk’s pick: PANTHERS. Teddy Ballgame has been keeping Carolina competitive.
Hodge’s pick: PANTHERS. Carolina has been far better without Christian McCaffrey than anyone thought — they can hold this game within a touchdown.
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets
Line: Bills -13 (-110)
Total: 45.5 points
Dunk’s pick: BILLS. Get right game for Josh Allen.
Hodge’s pick: BILLS. Buffalo easily snaps a two-game losing streak against the worst team in football.
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals
Line: Browns -3.5 (EVEN)
Total: 50.5 points
Dunk’s pick: BENGALS. Cincy has been scrappy with Joe Burrow at quarterback — Burrow over Baker Mayfield.
Hodge’s pick: BROWNS. The No. 1 rushing offence in the NFL against the No. 27 rushing defence? Easy pick. The even odds are just a bonus.
Dallas Cowboys at Washington Football Team
Line: Pick’em (-110)
Total: 46 points
Dunk’s pick: COWBOYS. Gimme the NFC East Division leader — Dallas bounce back game.
Hodge’s pick: WASHINGTON. The Cowboys have yet to cover the spread this season through six games and Andy Dalton looked terrible in Week 6.
Green Bay Packers at Houston Texans
Line: Packers -3.5 (-115)
Total: 56.5 points
Dunk’s pick: PACKERS. Points are intriguing, but it’s a value spot to cash on Green Bay.
Hodge’s pick: PACKERS. Aaron Rodgers can’t be bad two weeks in a row, right?
Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons
Line: Falcons -2.0 (-115)
Total: 56.5 points
Dunk’s pick: LIONS. Detroit coaching staff trying to keep their jobs.
Hodge’s pick: FALCONS. Atlanta continues riding the wave following the firing of Dan Quinn.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans
Line: Titans -1.0 (-110)
Total: 52 points
Dunk’s pick: STEELERS. Tennessee hasn’t seen a defence like Pittsburgh’s yet.
Hodge’s pick: STEELERS. I’m rolling with Chase Claypool and company until they let me down. It hasn’t happened yet.
Sunday 4 p.m. ET
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
Line: Chiefs -10.0 (-105)
Total: 48 points
Dunk’s pick: BRONCOS. Denver won outright as large road dogs in New England. The Broncos are different with Drew Lock in the saddle.
Hodge’s pick: BRONCOS. The Chiefs are great but covering a double-digit spread on the road against a divisional opponent is tough to do.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Los Angeles Chargers
Line: Chargers -7.5 (-110)
Total: 49 points
Dunk’s pick: CHARGERS. Justin Herbert’s star keeps charging up.
Hodge’s pick: CHARGERS. The Chargers are 5-1 against the spread this season. Justin Herbert’s been knocking on the door and it’s time he knocked it down.
San Francisco 49ers at New England Patriots
Line: Patriots -2.0 (-110)
Total: 45 points
Dunk’s pick: 49ERS. As long as Jimmy G makes quick decisions, San Fran can be dangerous.
Hodge’s pick: PATS. New England has to be better than last week — especially at home.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Las Vegas Raiders
Line: Buccaneers -3.0 (EVEN)
Total: 53.5 points
Dunk’s pick: BUCS. COVID-19 issues in Las Vegas and Tampa Bay’s defence is legit.
Hodge’s pick: RAIDERS. The best bet here is the over — Las Vegas has hit it every game this season.
Sunday Night Football
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
Line: Seahawks -3.5 (-105)
Total: 56.5 points
Dunk’s pick: SEAHAWKS. Seattle coming off a bye versus Arizona on a short week.
Hodge’s pick: SEAHAWKS. It’s all about buying low and selling high — after two easy wins against the Jets and Cowboys, I’m happy to sell the Cards.
Monday Night Football
Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams
Line: Rams -6.0 (-110)
Total: 45.5 points
Dunk’s pick: DA BEARS. Monday Night lights and BDN.
Hodge’s pick: BEARS. Chicago won’t win this game but they should keep it within a touchdown.
Against the spread picks to date
Hodge: 17-9
Dunk: 15-11
