The Toronto Argonauts came together for a belly-filling cause on Thanksgiving weekend.

The Argos were at The Daily Bread Food Bank’s Thanksgiving drive-thru food drive on Saturday collecting donations in a socially distanced, contactless way. Double blue players were joined by Toronto mayor John Tory.

The Daily Bread Food Bank tweeted a thank you note to the Argos: A big shout out to the Toronto Argos for coming out today to help unload food donations at our Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Food Drive!

Veteran fullback Declan Cross, Canadian receivers Natey Adjei, Juwan Brescacin and Kurleigh Gittens Jr., national defensive linemen Fabion Foote and Robbie Smith, linebacker/defensive back Chris Ackie, and cover men Matthew Boateng and Alden Darby were in attendance.

The need for food donations is greater than ever with a 200 percent increase in new people accessing food banks due to COVID-19. Food insecurity has affected nearly one in seven Canadians during the pandemic, according to Statistics Canada.

The public is invited to join The Daily Bread Food Bank’s efforts to raise 272,000 pounds of food this Thanksgiving season by dropping off non-perishable food donations to the distribution centre at 191 New Toronto Street in Etobicoke.
