Canadian defensive lineman David Onyemata is well on his way to setting a new career-high in sacks, notching his second of the season on Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints defeated the Detroit Lions by a score of 35-29, improving the team’s record to 2-2. The sack came on third down early in the fourth quarter, ending a Detroit drive.

The 27-year-old signed a three-year extension with New Orleans in March worth $27-million USD. Onyemata has lived up to the deal thus far, making seven total tackles and two sacks in three games. He missed last week’s loss to Green Bay due to a calf injury.

The native of Lagos, Nigeria was a fourth-round selection of the Saints in 2016 out of the University of Manitoba. He has recorded 130 total tackles, 29 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, three knockdowns, and one forced fumble in 66 career NFL games.
