Introducing the 3DownNation top 100 CFL player rankings

2020 has been tough on all of us, which is why we at 3DownNation are launching a new project that will run through the end of this difficult year.

Our contributors have collaborated to create a list of the CFL’s top 100 active players. The list doesn’t take positions or nationality into account — it’s based purely on talent and production.

The criteria for eligibility is minimal.

Players cannot be under contract with an NFL team, which rules out guys like Chris Streveler, Reggie Begelton, and Derrick Moncrief. They also have to have been under contract with a CFL team at some point over the past two seasons. This rules out a player like Cameron Wake, who is currently a free agent following eleven years in the NFL.

That’s it. Anyone else is eligible to receive a spot on the list.

We have also tried to make this list looking ahead to the 2021 season. This means we’ve given slight priority to young, emerging talents over aging stars who may not return to the league after a year away from the game. Don’t worry, though — plenty of veteran fan favourites are still on the list.

One thing to consider is that the entire list has already been finalized. It’s inevitable that players will be signed or released by the NFL over the next 100 days, which means we may have to bend the rules a little bit over the coming months. Regardless, know that all 100 players on the list meet the eligibility criteria as of today.

Come back over the next 100 days as we reveal the list one player at a time until we reach the end of 2020.
