Canadian defensive lineman Michael Hoecht is joining the Los Angeles Rams’ practice roster, per source.

He will have to clear waivers for the move to become official on Saturday.

Hoecht signed with the Rams shortly after going unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft. He showed a high ceiling during training camp and will have time to develop this season under the tutelage from stars like Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers.

The Oakville, Ont. native has extraordinary athleticism for his six-foot-four, 310-pound frame as he demonstrated at his virtual pro day. He ran a 4.65 forty-yard dash while putting up 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press — a solid combination of speed and strength.

Hoecht put his physical tools to good use at Brown University, recording 158 total tackles and 17 sacks. He was one of the top players available in this year’s CFL draft, going tenth overall to the Ottawa Redblacks.

However, Hoecht’s focus remains on developing into an active roster NFL player in Los Angeles.
