Former top CFL play-by-play man Chris Cuthbert combined his football and hockey acumen Tuesday night.

After defenceman Dmitry Kulikov fired a long stretch pass to Nikolaj Ehlers who scored the Jets opening goal against Calgary, Cuthbert referenced Winnipeg’s Grey Cup winning quarterback: “A Zach Collaros long bomb.”

Wednesday morning the Bombers team Twitter account dropped the devastating Collaros long bomb to Darvin Adams which sparked Winnipeg’s CFL title run. It was a 71-yard touchdown connection that knocked out the defending, 2018 Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders on their home turf at McMahon Stadium.

General manager Kyle Walters acquired Collaros in an NHL-style trade deadline move and it paid off with the veteran quarterback producing a 4-0 record, including three wins in the playoffs en route to hoisting Earl Grey’s mug. Collaros was the starter who propelled the Bombers run through the end of the season, playoffs and ultimately a Grey Cup championship.

The legend of the first Winnipeg team to claim the CFL title in 29 years continues to grow.
