Another key Canadian football event has been called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The U Sports East-West Bowl scheduled for May at Carleton University has been cancelled, it was announced on Thursday.
The event serves as an opportunity for prospects to perform for CFL scouts one year before they become draft eligible. This allows players to get feedback from coaches, learning the areas in which teams would like them to improve the following season.
A number of this year’s projected first-round picks attended the event in 2019 including Alberta offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell, Queen’s defensive tackle Cameron Lawson, and Montreal defensive back Marc-Antoine Dequoy.
Rosters for the event were finalized earlier this month, though they were not released to the public.
The inaugural East-West Bowl took place in 2003 at University Stadium in Waterloo, Ontaro. This will be the first time since its inception that the event will not go on as planned.
