The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed former National Football League defensive back Christian Campbell.
Campbell was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round, 182nd overall during the 2018 NFL Draft.
He played in four pre-season games, but the Cards released him among final training camp cuts. The New Orleans Saints signed Campbell to the practice squad that October. He finished the season in Louisiana, however, following a training camp injury in 2019, the Saints let him go. The 24-year-old had a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers and been a free agent ever since.
The Phenix City, Alabama native played four years of NCAA football at Penn State University. Campbell recorded 102 total tackles, 19 pass knock downs, five tackles for loss, four interceptions, forced one fumble and recovered another.
At the Nittany Lions pro day in 2018, Campbell displayed explosive athleticism with a 41-inch vertical leap and 11-foot, three-inch broad jump. He ran a 40-yard time of 4.56.
Campbell will have to compete in a veteran-laden Riders’ defensive backfield.
