Bombers sign former Riders defensive back Jhavonte Dean

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed defensive back Jhavonte Dean.

Dean signed with Saskatchewan in September 2019 and spent the rest of the season on the Riders practice roster. Most recently Dean played for the Seattle Dragons in the XFL.

The University of Miami product played in 25 NCAA games making 28 tackles, three interceptions and five pass deflections in two seasons for the Hurricanes. Dean was highly touted coming out of Blinn College as the number one junior college defensive back.

After going unselected in the 2019 NFL draft, Dean signed an undrafted free agent contract with Cleveland. The Browns placed Dean on waivers and Pittsburgh picked him up for the final pre-season game last year. The Steelers released Dean among the final training camp cuts.

Dean is known for his speed — 4.30 range 40-yard dash — and could be an intriguing player for the Bombers.
