If Derel Walker signs with the Lions Bryan Burnham believes the two receivers would provide B.C. the best pair of pass catchers in the three-down league.
“I don’t think I can name a better duo in the CFL if me and him were teamed up together,” Burnham said on The Rod Pedersen Show. “I would obviously love to play with him.”
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been selling multiple positive factors the organization believes it and the city have to offer Walker. Even though Walker remains a free agent, Burnham has not been recruiting him to sign with the Lions.
“You know what? I’m not. It’s just based off the fact that I have a lot of respect for him and the way he plays,” Burnham said.
“I respect the fact that he has to make this decision on his own and while it could help to tug at him a little bit, he has to do what’s best for him.”
The 29-year-old Burnham has produced four 1,000-yard campaigns in a row. Through six CFL seasons, 82 career CFL games, Burnham has 368 receptions for 5,651 yards and 33 majors, averaging 15.4 yards per grab.
Through 64 games in the CFL, Walker has 363 receptions for 5,248 yards and 32 touchdowns. He’s averaging 82 receiving yards per outing in the three-down league while producing 1,000 yards in three of his five seasons north of the border.
Walker and Burnham are viewed as elite receivers in the CFL.
“Whether that’s financially or whatnot I just want to let him make that decision on his own,” Burnham said. “If he wants to come play with us, I’d love that.”
