Veteran CFL running back C.J. Gable posted a cryptic picture to his Instagram account.
It had cleats hanging from a goal post. His profile was open, but it’s since been changed to private.
The University of Southern California alum rushed for 1,001 yards in 14 games during the 2019 season. His second straight year eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in the three-down game after rushing for 1,063 yards in 2019.
Gable has played eight seasons north of the border. He’s rushed 880 times for 4,803 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, with 28 touchdowns on the ground. Known as a do-it-all back Gable caught 243 passes for 2,225 yards, 1,056 yards after catch, and 11 touchdowns.
The Sylmar, California native is the only running back in Sylmar High School history to rush for 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons during his junior and senior years. After accepting a scholarship to USC, Gable became the first freshman to ever start an opening game at running back for the USC Trojans in 2006.
While at USC, Gable rushed 308 times for 1,549 yards, five yards per carry, and 13 touchdowns adding 19 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Gable went unselected in the 2011 NFL draft, but attended training camp with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos. However, he was unable to make either roster.
The 32-year-old Gable became a free agent on February 11 and has yet to sign a contract with any CFL team.
