The B.C. Lions have secured some much-needed help along the offensive line.
Ryker Mathews has inked a two-year contract with the club after spending the past three seasons in Hamilton. The 27-year-old is considered one of the CFL’s best shutdown left tackles.
Mathews showed enough with the Tiger-Cats in 2018 that he signed an off-season contract with the New England Patriots. Cut before the start of training camp, the BYU product returned to Hamilton.
Mike Reilly struggled at times last season due to poor protection from his offensive line. The addition of Mathews should alleviate some of that pressure, allowing the Lions’ offence to be more productive in 2020.
