Thee Toronto Argonauts have re-signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to a one-year extension through the 2020 season.
“Athletically, he’s got an arm that can make all the throws and he moves around in the pocket well, but the number one thing I love is his work ethic. Nobody works harder than McLeod does,” Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie said.
The San Francisco, California native’s third season in double blue was the best of his career. He led the CFL with 26 touchdown passes and was third in the league with 4,024 passing yards.
“He played the position, he sees the field like a quarterback,” Bethel-Thompson said about working with Dinwiddie.
The 31-year-old Bethel-Thompson had nine games where he passed for 300 or more yards, despite getting just 13 starts. In 10 of those games he threw for multiple touchdowns. The Sacramento State University product also had a pair of games where he passed for over 400 yards.
A member of the 2017 Grey Cup champions, Bethel-Thompson backed up Ricky Ray in the Argos 27-24 win over Calgary.
