Eskimos release veteran Canadian receiver Natey Adjei instead of paying roster bonus

The Edmonton Eskimos have released national receiver Natey Adjei.

Adjei was scheduled to receive a $7,500 roster bonus on February 1 and the same amount April 1 along with $75,000 in base salary for the 2020 season. However, that won’t be the case anymore, Edmonton has severed ties. In four seasons with the Esks, Adjei played 66 games recording 86 receptions for 801 yards and three touchdowns.

The Toronto native had moved his family to Edmonton during the current off-season. Adjei originally signed with the Eskimos as a free agent in July 2016 and was later extended in January 2019.

Prior to Edmonton, Adjei spent two seasons with Toronto (2014-2015) where he was originally drafted. The Argos chose Adjei in the third round, 22nd overall during the 2013 CFL draft.

The 30-year-old Adjei is a reliable Canadian pass catcher. He’s produced 97 catches for 925 yards and four touchdowns in his six-year CFL career. Adjei has starting experience and goes about his business in a professional way on and off the field.
