Testaverde won the Heisman Trophy in 1986 while at the University of Miami. He was selected with the first overall pick in the 1987 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Testaverde suited up for the Bucs, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers during his career.
Two times Testaverde played in the Pro Bowl (1996, 1998). Through 233 NFL games, Testaverde completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 46,233 yards with 275 touchdowns and 267 interceptions. Testaverde played 21 seasons in the NFL until he was 44 years old.
Testaverde Jr. earned an NCAA scholarship to Texas Tech University and dressed in one game for the Red Raiders during the 2014 season. After his true freshman season, he transferred to the University of Miami — his father’s alma mater.
Following two years with the Hurricanes, Testaverde Jr. left for the University of Albany and earned the starting job. He threw for 1,714 yards with 11 touchdowns versus 12 interceptions while completing 53.4 percent of his attempts. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers invited Testaverde Jr. to their rookie mini-camp last May. He earned a contract with the Bucs, but was released after training camp.
Testaverde Jr. will compete for a backup spot behind Lions franchise quarterback Mike Reilly.
