The new Montreal Alouettes owners have moved quickly to secure a president and general manager.
Montreal Gazette reporter Herb Zurkowsky has made it official: the Als are hiring Mario Cecchini as president and Danny Maciocia general manager. 3DownNation insider Justin Dunk reported Montreal wanted to finalize a deal with Maciocia to be the GM.
One of the new owners, Gary Stern wanted to have the two positions filled quickly after purchasing the Alouettes. Cecchini is the former president of Corus Media Quebec. He speaks both languages fluently as does Maciocia, which was a requirement for Stern.
Maciocia turned down an offer from the Alouettes to become the team’s president in December 2016. He described the hiring process and what went into his decision in a Q&A with 3DownNation. It’s the right fit for Maciocia to accept his dream job this time around.
