Former CFLer Diontae Spencer named Pro Bowl alternate as a returner for the Denver Broncos

Diontae Spencer has been named a Pro Bowl alternate as a return specialist for the Denver Broncos.

Spencer debuted as Denver’s primary return man on the opening night of Monday Night Football in September.

The 27-year-old performed well at Steelers training camp and Pittsburgh wanted to add him to their practice roster, but he had to pass through waivers first. That’s how the Broncos grabbed Spencer.

Since earning the main returner role in the Mile High City, Spencer has 25 punt returns for 204 yards (8.2-yard average), including two 20-plus yarders and one 40-plus yarder, and 13 kick-off returns for 394 yards.

He ranks eighth in the NFL in punt return yardage among players with at least 10 punt returns and third in yards per kick-off return (30.3) among players with at least 10 kick returns.

Spencer could each fill a spot if a player on the AFC team’s current roster drops out due to injury or because his team advances to Super Bowl LIV. It would be Spencer’s first time making the Pro Bowl.
